This video was posted about two weeks ago and has nearly 2-million views on YouTube, but it still makes me laugh every time I watch so here it is just in case someone out there hasn’t seen it. I have zero information about the game, the player or the teams. I can tell you that this was a football game, likely high school and that guy is kind of an idiot. Or is he?
Let’s see: he plays for a team no one has heard of, he probably isn’t being heavily recruited by colleges or at least isn’t anymore, and his last high school football game will likely be his last football game period. On further review, the ruling on the field has been over-turned. This kid made the right call in running backwards and throwing the ball in the air in a panic. Because he’ll be remembered FOORRR-EVVV-VEEERR.
You think he’ll be one of those guys who shows up to the ten year reunion and has to remind the snooty bitch at the name tag table who he is? Hell no. You think he’ll come to a football game in a few years and go to shake the coach’s hand and have to worry that the coach doesn’t remember him? Hell no. You think he got laid after this game? Well, pity is a powerful drug. Almost as powerful as roofies. I’m not ready to rule out the possibility that he still got laid, which makes his decision making all the more sound.
In college football’s first week, there were two big upsets, a handful of close, exciting games and a heaping helping of forgettable blow-outs. Maybe I would have remembered that Oregon played New Mexico if somewhere in the midst of the ass-kicking, a New Mexico player had made the same play this high school kid did. Instead, New Mexico gets housed and forgotten. That’s a double-whammy. Silly New Mexico.
