The season long saga is finally at an end. Carmelo Anthony has been traded from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks in a deal for Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, and a 2014 first round pick.
As for the Knicks, on top of receiving Carmelo Anthony, they also receive Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.
With Melo’s contract to expire at the end of this season, trade speculations continued he didn’t sign a three-year extension worth almost $65 million throughout the year. He has been rumored he was headed to the New Jersey Nets just before the All-Star break, but apparently that deal fell through, leaving the Knicks to pitch an offer to the Nuggets before Thursday’s trade deadline.
Now that we know where Carmelo Anthony is headed, the focus will shift over to Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of this coming season. The Knicks will probably be big players in this scuffle for both of those players, and if they can get lucky again, it may not be long before we see a new “Big Three”.
